Circulating dihydrotestosterone may not reflect peripheral formation.
We compared the blood (PBDHT) and urine (PUDHT) production rate of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in normal men and women to determine whether peripheral formation was totally reflected in blood. PBDHT was similar when measured at both sites in men (674 +/- 79 vs. 788 +/- 207 SE micrograms/d); however, PUDHT was greater than PBDHT in women (174 +/- 55 vs. 55 +/- 8 micrograms/d, P less than 0.02). Ex...
متن کاملE-mail May Not Reflect The Social Network
This paper aims to demonstrate that ties obtained by mining e-mails archives do not necessarily provide a complete and realistic approximation of interactions by other communication media. The results of our project indicate that factors such as co-location and the nature of working relationships influence the preference for face-to-face interactions and chat. Peers who are co-located and who a...
متن کاملDihydrotestosterone Formation in Cultured Human Fibroblasts
The conversion of [1,2-3H]testosterone to [‘Hldihydrotestosterone has been assessed in fibroblast monolayers grown from skin biopsies of foreskin, scrotum, and various nongenital skins from 31 control men who varied in age from newborn to 25 years and three 46,XY subjects with hereditary male pseudohermaphroditism. Under the standardized conditions utilized in this study, the rate of dihydrotes...
متن کاملRodent heart failure models do not reflect the human circulating microRNA signature in heart failure
INTRODUCTION We recently identified a set of plasma microRNAs (miRNAs) that are downregulated in patients with heart failure in comparison with control subjects. To better understand their meaning and function, we sought to validate these circulating miRNAs in 3 different well-established rat and mouse heart failure models, and correlated the miRNAs to parameters of cardiac function. METHODS ...
متن کاملGenomic haplotype blocks may not accurately reflect spatial variation in historic recombination intensity.
Recently, genomic data have revealed a "block-like" structure of haplotype diversity on human chromosomes. This structure is anticipated to facilitate gene mapping studies, because strong associations among loci within a block may allow haplotype variation to be tagged with a limited number of markers. But its usefulness to mapping efforts depends on the consistency of the block structure withi...
